{"id":12257,"date":"2012-07-26T22:07:27","date_gmt":"2012-07-27T05:07:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/resosante.ca\/initiativeenglish\/"},"modified":"2012-07-26T22:07:27","modified_gmt":"2012-07-27T05:07:27","slug":"initiativeenglish","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/resosante.ca\/initiativeenglish\/","title":{"rendered":"Initiatives"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Information and referral services<\/h3>\n<p>R\u00e9soSant\u00e9 provides<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>general information on health care services<\/li>\n<li>information on measures to facilitate access in French to such services, and<\/li>\n<li>referral services to francophone health care and community resources.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This information is available in a number of ways, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>telephone and email, by contacting&nbsp;the R\u00e9soSant\u00e9 <a href=\"index.php?option=com_qcontacts&amp;view=contact&amp;id=1&amp;Itemid=127&amp;lang=en\">office<\/a><\/li>\n<li>an annual directory of French-speaking health professionals <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/resosante.ca\/images\/repertoires\/rs_insert_2011_proof3.pdf\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">published<\/a> online and in the Calendar \u201cLa Colombie-Britannique \u00e0 votre service en fran\u00e7ais<\/li>\n<li>\u201cInfo bien-\u00eatre\u201d on the R\u00e9soSant\u00e9 website<\/li>\n<li>R\u00e9soSant\u00e9 quarterly <a href=\"index.php?option=com_docman&amp;task=cat_view&amp;gid=65&amp;Itemid=146&amp;lang=fr\">bulletins<\/a> providing relevant information in French on topics such as prevention of illness and promotion of good health, including air travel, the family doctor, diabetes and salt consumption<\/li>\n<li>a R\u00e9soSant\u00e9 documentation centre in our <a href=\"index.php?option=com_qcontacts&amp;view=contact&amp;id=1&amp;Itemid=127&amp;lang=fr\">office<\/a><\/li>\n<li>information booths during major events in the francophone community<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> <!--nextpage--> <\/p>\n<h3>Health promotion initiatives<\/h3>\n<p>R\u00e9soSant\u00e9 works with partners to take action to promote good health. Activities and services delivered to date include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>LEAP BC<\/strong> The adaptation of this resource in French, in collaboration with the F\u00e9d\u00e9ration des parents francophones de C.-B. and partners of Western Provinces and Northern Territories, is called GRANDIR CB. The resource is composed of two manuals (\u201cPEP\u201d and \u201cManger Sant\u00e9\u201d) and 40 activity sheets for very young children (6 years old and under). Free of charge and presented in a practical format, these activity sheets encourage the healthy development of children by incorporating physical activity and healthy eating into verbal communication and early reading<\/li>\n<li><strong>HeartSmart Kids&#x2122;<\/strong>. With the support of R\u00e9soSant\u00e9, the Heart and Stroke Foundation has translated its award winning program into French. <strong>Jeunes C\u0153ur atout <sup>MC<\/sup><\/strong> is a free educational health program, directed at pupils in grades 4 to 6. It deals with healthy eating, physical activity and smoke-free living, all key aspects in raising the awareness of young people and helping them develop life-long healthy attitudes. The program includes an educational guide containing lesson plans and activities, posters for the classroom and a collection of magazines created for school children, which they can take home to use with their families<\/li>\n<li><strong>My choices, my health<\/strong>. <em><strong>Mes choix, ma sant\u00e9<\/strong><\/em> is an educational resource on health produced through a partnership between R\u00e9soSant\u00e9 and the Conseil Scolaire Francophone de C.-B. Created by a team of teachers under the guidance of the CSF, the resource includes 50 health-related educational scenarios for 10th grade students and teachers. Each of the 50 scenarios meets the learning outcomes set by the British Columbia Ministry of Education in the framework of the course Planning 10 (Planification 10)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Community Workshops<\/strong>. Clients of La Boussole can access health related activities based on their needs (workshops on disease prevention and promotion of good health; anti-smoking campaign; wholesome nutrition campaign), organised by a health care professional<\/li>\n<li>Distribution of&nbsp;<strong>educational materials on health<\/strong>&nbsp;in French to help Francophones take charge of their health. These materials include publications in French from the <a href=\"index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=85&amp;Itemid=69&amp;lang=fr\">health authorities<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hc-sc.gc.ca\/\">Health Canada<\/a>,&nbsp; and the <a href=\"index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=76&amp;Itemid=98&amp;lang=fr\">BC Health Guide<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Delivery of <strong>health workshops for the public&nbsp;<\/strong>on topics such as diabetes and the prevention of falls. A number of workshops are organized in collaboration with regional francophone associations to connect French speaking health professionals with the local francophone community. You will find some of them <a href=\"index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=197&amp;Itemid=155&amp;lang=fr\">online<\/a> on our website. The topics for workshops were chosen by the members of each community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> <!--nextpage--> <\/p>\n<h3>Special initiatives to improve services and access in French<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"images\/stories\/doc\/fassp_042_guide-sante_CB_rapport_final_web.pdf\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BC Health Guide in French<\/a><\/strong> :&nbsp;R\u00e9soSant\u00e9 has joined forces with the provincial Ministry of Health to create components in French for the BC Health Guide Program. In addition, it has undertaken to promote and distribute the manual Health Guide to more than 13,000 francophone households.<\/li>\n<li>\u201c<strong><a class=\"wf_file\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"images\/stories\/doc\/2006-setting_stage_in_BC.pdf\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span class=\"wf_file_text\">Setting the Stage in British Columbia<\/span><\/a><\/strong>\u201d:&nbsp;A provincial initiative for consultation and planning to make recommendations to the decision-making bodies in the health care system for improved health services in French. These recommendations were based on consultations with the francophone population, the non-profit sector, health professionals and managers and a provincial forum.<\/li>\n<li>\u201c<strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"images\/stories\/doc\/informer_francophones_optimise_enpdf.pdf\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">A health information needs assessment and dissemination project for the Vancouver Island French-speaking populations<\/a><\/strong>\u201d: A regional project to promote good health that identifies needs and potential collaborations and has brought the Vancouver Island Health Authority and the francophone associations and schools on the island into closer contact.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.educacentre.com\/programmes-et-cours\/formation-continue\/langues-et-communication\/soignez-vos-patients-en-francais\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Caring for Patients in French<\/a><\/strong> : Linguistic training activities on medical terms in French developed in collaboration with \u00c9ducacentre College, designed for health care professionals with an intermediate or advanced level in French. This training includes 13 modules, organized around topics such as patient assessment, pain, disease prevention, nutrition, cultural adaptation, etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Let\u2019s Talk Mental Health<\/strong>. Two new mental health services in French were generated through the collaboration of R\u00e9soSant\u00e9 with the BC Schizophrenia Society and the La Boussole community centre. Through the online support service, people close to an individual with a mental illness can get answers to their questions from a health professional and can participate in a support network for family members. As an additional service, a biweekly newsletter provides information in French for providing support to an individual with a mental illness. Information on registering for these services is found on the website <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.reachingfamiliesproject.org\/francais\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">www.reachingfamiliesproject.org\/francais<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Training activities in cultural skills for health professionals developed in collaboration with the <a href=\"index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=87&amp;Itemid=108&amp;lang=fr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Provincial Language Service&nbsp;<\/a> of the Provincial Health Services Authority<\/li>\n<li>In collaboration with R\u00e9soSant\u00e9, La Boussole, organises medical visits for its clients, including a monthly assessment of their state of health by a registered nurse, and accompaniment to a medical clinic if required<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Other initiatives are underway. For more information concerning the initiatives mentioned here or other projects spearheaded by R\u00e9soSant\u00e9, <a href=\"index.php?option=com_qcontacts&amp;view=contact&amp;id=1&amp;Itemid=127&amp;lang=fr\">get in touch<\/a> with our office.<\/p>\n<p> <!--nextpage--> <\/p>\n<h3>Support for research and sharing of best practices<\/h3>\n<p>R\u00e9soSant\u00e9 has facilitated and collaborated in the implementation of a number of research projects on the health care needs of francophones:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201c<strong>La sant\u00e9 mentale des femmes francophones de la Colombie-Britannique: qu\u2019en sait-on et qu\u2019en fait-on?<\/strong>\u201d (2007) This study was carried out by the British Columbia Centre for Excellence on women\u2019s health, in collaboration with a number of organisations, including R\u00e9soSant\u00e9. This study aimed to draw up an inventory of policies, programs and initiatives in mental health for francophone women in the province, taking into account the intersections between mental health, problems with the consumption of alcohol and other drugs, poverty, homelessness and past and present experiences with physical and sexual violence. In addition, a survey amongst francophone women of the province through individual interviews as well as focus group consultations with various participants in the field of mental health and social services have led to greater understanding of both the demand and the capacity for providing services and resources.<\/li>\n<li><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"images\/stories\/doc\/Sante_evaluationbesoinsTri-Cities2.pdf\" title=\"Sante_evaluationbesoinsTri-Cities2.pdf\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u00c9valuation des besoins : Services de sant\u00e9 \u00e0 la disposition de la population francophone de Tri-Cities<\/a>&nbsp;(2005)<\/li>\n<li><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"images\/stories\/doc\/Kruchten-Francophones_demunis-fran-Final.pdf\" title=\"Kruchten-Francophones_demunis-fran-Final.pdf\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Les francophones d\u00e9muni(e)s de Vancouver et les services de sant\u00e9 \u00e0 leur disposition<\/a>&nbsp;(2004)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>R\u00e9soSant\u00e9 organises, facilitates and oversees the participation of its representatives and partners in numerous events on health care, on the provincial, national and even international levels. These initiatives facilitate the sharing of best practices and success stories. Some of the events are listed here:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>National Research Forum on health care organised by the Consortium national de formation en sant\u00e9 (CNFS) \u2013 Sudbury, June 2012; Ottawa, November 2007 and 2005<\/li>\n<li>19th international conference of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iuhpe.org\/index.html?mode=&amp;n=&amp;page=44&amp;lang=fr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">l&#8217;Union internationale pour l&#8217;\u00e9ducation en sant\u00e9&nbsp;<\/a>&#8211; Vancouver, June 2007<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.inspq.qc.ca\/aspx\/fr\/jasp_accueil.aspx?sortcode=1.55.58.61.62\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Journ\u00e9es annuelles de sant\u00e9 publique&nbsp;<\/a>\u2013 Montreal, December 2011, Montreal, March 2010, Quebec, November 2008 and Montreal, October 2006<\/li>\n<li>Provincial conference of the <a href=\"index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=60&amp;Itemid=64&amp;lang=fr\">Public Health Association of BC&nbsp;<\/a>&#8211; Vancouver, October 2006, November 2007, December 2008, November 2009<\/li>\n<li>The national conferences of the <a href=\"index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=60&amp;Itemid=64&amp;lang=fr\">Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 Sant\u00e9 en fran\u00e7ais<\/a>,&nbsp;Rendez-vous Sant\u00e9 en fran\u00e7ais \u2013 held since 2003, successively in Winnipeg, Moncton, Toronto, Ottawa, Edmonton, Charlottetown in June 2010, and Ottawa in November 2012<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> <!--nextpage--> <\/p>\n<h3>Liaison work between the actors in the health care sector and the francophone community<\/h3>\n<p>The francophone community in British Columbia benefits from its non-profit milieu, Francophile and Francophone Health Professionals, and its school sector From time to time R\u00e9soSant\u00e9 organises conferences and forums to facilitate a coming together of these potential partners.
